WHAT FRIENDS WILL DO

 

Karen and I have been friends for probably 45 years.  She introduced me to Ed and I was in her wedding.  She is a cancer survivor too.  She is also an avid golfer after retiring several years ago. It's funny how our lives have intermingled over the years.  She's the first person I called when I had breast cancer the first time. She was out of town at a meeting and I called her until I found her.  She knew.  This weekend she played in a benefit golf tournament and sponsored a hole in my honor. That's what friends will do.  Cards, calls, happies, prayers--that's what friends will do. God uses friends as angels cause He has so many of us to cover! Yes, that's what friends do.  

PBGC LUNCHEON MEETING 2010 and BEN'S BALLGAME

Today was the last meeting of the garden club for the year. We met at Wilma's and made 'hypertufa' pots. That makes you wonder, doesn't it? It's a strange mixture of peat moss, concrete, perlite and water-kind of like making mudpies.  After we made the pots we had a wonderful salad potluck lunch and enjoyed fellowship with each other.  It will take a couple of weeks for the pots to cure but I'll show you pics of us having a great time.  Two friends from Brandon came to teach us the technique for making the pots. That's Joan on the left.   Wilma and I enjoyed our pot making time. I even made one for Libby! My friend Karen [also from Brandon] worked really hard!

We all finished up about the same time and cleaned up the lovely work area under the trees. Wilma's home is so inviting. Her kitchen is her "domain" and it's beautiful!

 

 

We had a wonderful lunch and finished with a brief meeting. Thanks,Wilma for hosting our meeting. We had a wonderful time! Thanks Joan and Karen for teaching us a new idea!

BEN'S BALLGAME

My day was hectic. The boys came after school because Jennifer was working graduation. I had to get Ben to his ballgame at 4:00 so we all went.  It was tense until the 5th inning and it blew up. Ben's team lost but they tried hard. He made some good throws from third to first for outs but his hitting was off. There will be other games to win!!

 All in all--a very good day!  Blessings abound.

   

LOVED MAKING THESE!!

I loved making the tea towels almost as much as I enjoyed reading the 29 comments. I've never had so many!!  Here are the towels and Betty, yours should have been delivered this afternoon to the flower shop and Shara, yours is in the mail. The rest of you--you never know when a surprise might show up at your door!

RIDGE POINT CHRISTMAS 2009

I've spent the last four hours downloading and labeling the pictures from the "Pirate Christmas" at Ridge Point today.  The pictures will have to speak for themselves because I am exhausted!!  We had a great day and enjoyed every minute of being with family and eating and playing games with gifts.  There was lots of laughter and hugging.  If you don't have family, you miss out on a lot. NOVEMBER GARDEN CLUB

I was lucky enough to get invited to Brandon Garden Club's Tablescapes Luncheon this year.  It was so fantastic that I wanted to share it with my club members. My longtime friend Karen is in the club and I asked her if one of their members would do a program for us. Charla, her mother and Karen came down and not only did the program but had lunch with Ed and me and toured the farm.  We had a wonderful day!  [I shared the Tablescapes pictures with you back in February.]

A FUN AFTERNOON

Today was a dreary, cold and damp day around SW MS.  What a good day to be invited to play bridge with friends.  I had never been to this friend's home and what a beautiful place it was!  A lovely drive to the country and this is what greeted us--something we would love to have!

 

They have a beautiful flowing creek in their front yard--with ducks!! You drive over a bridge to get to their front door.  How wonderful is that!! It flows year found with cold spring water.  That's the one thing that Ed wishes we had here on Cotton Branch.  Cotton Branch flows when it rains but it's dry otherwise.  How I wish I could give him that flowing water!!

EXTENDED HERRING FAMILY CHRISTMAS

Ed's cousin Melody invited us to the Herring Christmas at Ridge Point on Saturday.  Bret and Vista have recently moved into Aunt Pauline's side of the house and have it beautifully decorated with their furnishings. A house full of Herring's is loaded with food and laughter.  After eating a delicious lunch we gathered in Melody's "side" of the house and had "Pirate Christmas".  Did I mention that the Herring's can get rowdy too? :)  Here are some random pictures from the day.

Peyton Anna sent a video of the Herring siblings when they were young. Everyone gathered around to watch. Aunt Pauline especially enjoyed it. There were some tears along with the smiles.

FRIDAY GARDEN CLUB

Third Friday is always Pine Burr Garden Club meeting.  This Friday we had a wonderful design program featuring a friend from Hazlehurst-Joanne Newman.  She brought another friend who will do a program later in the year.  We had a great crowd and a guest or two.  Here are some of her designs.  The refreshments were good too!  :)

   

HOMECOMING PARADE

No, I'm not a football fan and I didn't have anyone involved in the Homecoming Parade [but Jennifer who organized it]. Our friends from Natchez came over in their Dusenberg to drive one of the girls. I guess that's my only connection. It took me longer to drive from home to get there than the parade lasted but it was fun.  Jimmie Lou, Libby, Sam and I sat in the back of the truck and took pictures.  All the kids on the floats were hollering out, "hey Sam"! He just grinned! :)  All the girls looked pretty and the floats were nice.  The ROTC and band did a good job too.

ROAD TRIP

 

Does this tell you where the road trip was?  You guessed it!!  The MS Braves game in Jackson--all 16 of us--Herring's, Cowart's and a couple of tagalongs!  What fun we had.

We were there early and got team playing cards. The kids enjoyed watching the teams take infield practice. 

The boys got to see the famous "Crawling Coach" [in the camo shirt].  He got thrown out of the game after we left.

Shelby was up for the game--her sign was ready!

The Braves didn't fare so well that night due to a home run by the NC Mudcats but we all enjoyed the "big league" atmosphere!  The "eyeball" race deflated but the "human bowling balls" were right on target. We left for the beach after the 7th inning stretch and missed the fireworks but everyone said they were awesome!  Thanks, Papa for the fun night at the park!

FUN AND A MAKEOVER. . .

Abby mentioned wanting to get her hair cut and her Mom has been in the hospital and unable to carry her.  We went to the beauty shop on Tuesday morning and "Oh la la"!  Isn't her hair pretty?

When we got home Sam was here and wanted her to "play checkers"! You'll notice that Sam seems to be winning. He said that Abby just "didn't know how to play good".  Abby thought that was funny.

We've been to McComb almost everyday for something.  The youth group is coming out on Thursday night for swimming and eating.  Abby may go bowling tonight with some of the youth group.  I think she's having fun "in the country"!
