DOOLEY LIKES "DEER PORN"!

Saturday night Ed and I watched "My Dog Skip" [or rather part of it] and Dooley loved it.  I told Ed that I wished I had taken a picture of him watching TV. Whenever the dog would come on the screen Dooley would bark or growl.  Today during the ball games Ed would flip from the ball game to the hunting channel. Dooley saw the deer and went crazy!  He climbed on the foot of the bed and watched for the longest time. He growled and barked every time the deer was shown. Ed is seriously thinking about making him a hunting dog!!

I don't know if he will be interested in the hunting part, but he sure knows what a good buck looks like!

WE SURVIVED THANKSGIVING!

The crowd gathered slowly but by lunch time we had a full house.  Food was abundant and Ed said it was the best Thanksgiving food we ever had.  It was good and we were all "overstuffed turkeys" after lunch.  The majority of the group went deer hunting and Becky, Hillary, Cookie and I watched "Home Alone". Hillary knows every word. It was fun to watch her and we enjoyed the movie.

Back to the deer hunting---Chris and Taylor each got a doe. They were meat hunting.  Abbey had to call in reinforcements to help track her kill. She was one proud little girl when they found it. Congrats, Abbey. 

This was her second buck and a nice 7 point.  Her two cousins also killed bucks so she had to go compare.

 

Oh, after lunch and before the hunt, the grandchildren and our nieces decorated the tree.  I have never let anyone help with the tree--my ornaments are super special to me. Is mellowing a sign of age? They did a great job. All that's missing are the candy canes.

                        

Now all that's left is to finish the decorating and wrapping and cooking and-----does it ever get finished?

We had a great day!

 

SCORE ONE FOR JODY!

First of all, if you are "animal sensitive" please move on.  We live in the country and the sport of choice is hunting.  I would rather hunt with a camera than with a gun, but I live on a farm with lots of guys.  It's the passion here and it consumes most of the time--planning, planting and getting ready.  I even have a sign outside our back door that says "Welcome to Deer Camp". :)  Jody's oldest son got a doe last weekend. Today Jody came in and wanted Dooley to "trail" for him. [Dooley is my Scottish Terrier!!]  He didn't really need him but he and Ed wanted to see if he would do it since Scotties were bred for hunting. [Not Dooley!]

Of course there is the "group" picture--Dooley, Ben, Ed, Sam, Graham, Jody and Sandy--with the poor deer on the ground.  What a bunch of guys-oh, Sandy is a girl.

  

Then comes the weigh in!  This old boy weighed in at 230 pounds. They were excited!

After the weigh-in comes the cleaning and I was out of there.  A bunch of guys with knives and a dead deer just don't appeal to me.

When they all gather in tomorrow for Thanksgiving there will be more hunters.  I'm sure the game will be on to beat Jody's measurements!

After all, isn't that what it's all about-the search for "the big one"!!

HIGH SCHOOL PLAY [and Sam]

After my daily trip to radiation on Friday I was supposed to go to the Garden Club meeting. Jennifer gently reminded me that Sam was in the play at the high school and I would have time to make it when I finished. Of course Garden Club was out the window--priorities, you know! Debra was with me and we went to the auditorium to be greeted by lots of grandparents and friends. My pictures aren't very good but the play was terrific. Neither Jennifer nor I could remember the name of the play--something about a proposal.  The kids are lucky to have a teacher who will put forth that much effort. I hope they have more productions like it. The set was simple and it didn't last long but all the kids who attended [and adults too] really enjoyed it. Not only was it entertaining-there was a lesson included.

Adam Chance and Brandie Causey were the main characters.  They were a young couple on a date in the park. 

I'm guessing at this one but I think this "couple" is Austin Peeples and one of the Scott girls. Forgive me if I'm wrong.  They were the "old married couple" and were hilarious! I loved it when she said she would hide his hearing aids.

This group was the PAPIP--"People Against Pets In the Park" group. They were having a demonstration.  Too funny!!

Our friend Daniel Youngblood was "the little kid playing in the park". He did a good job of flying his plane and playing.  There was also a girl walking a dog; an old boyfriend, a girl who wanted to know if "these jeans make my butt look big".  All of these thing were interupting "the proposal".  During the serious discussion the question of children came up. The young man said he had always wondered what it would be like to have children.  Enter Sam and Emily--

All they did was walk across the stage and look up at Adam but the crowd loved it--there was a unison--Ahhhh--when they came out.  They hesitated long enough to look up and be angelic and then walk off.  How precious was that?  These two are headed for great things.

In the end the young couple decided to be friends; the old couple was happy together and everybody danced off stage.

HGC BIKE TEAM PARTY

Racing season is over and the "biking boys" always want to get together to eat, talk bike racing and have fun. They bring their wives, children if they want to and always their appetites!  We look forward to it almost as much as they do!   They know that Ed will always have something good cooking on the grill.  His whole rib eyes were delicious.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The guys come from Vicksburg, Jackson, Brookhaven and New Orleans. Ed's been sponsoring them for over 20 years. I lovingly refer to them as "the children". They have so much fun! The wives don't always travel with them and that's why it's so important to us that they come to this party. 

 

 

 

Even the teenagers enjoyed themselves.

 

 

 

 

The guy at the end of the table is the "dictator" of the group. They're a winning team so it works!

 

 The food and conversation flowed freely.

The Herrings, Cowarts [minus Jennifer, she wasn't feeling well] Strouds and  Pucketts all came and ate with us. We all enjoy a good meal!

 

Ben, Graham and Sam watched a movie while they ate. They enjoyed a deer hunt before the supper.

  This group was all smiles after cleaning their plates.

 

 

 

 

The newest member of HGC Bicycle Racing Team--only 12 weeks old and ready to ride!  He's already looking forward to next year's party! And so are we!!

UPDATE FOR MY EXTENDED FAMILY

Today was my third radiation treatment. So far the only side effect I have had [besides the chemical burn from the marking pen] is a little bit of nausea feeling every now and then. I have medication for that and don't hesitate to take it.  Twenty seven to go [not counting Saturdays and Sundays]. Thanks for your prayers and notes. They are carrying me through this journey.

MISTLETOE AND E WOMEN-My Last Hurrah [at least for 6 weeks!]

November 7 was "Mistletoe Day". Libby didn't get to go so Pat and I went and hurriedly walked the isles.  She ran across so many people that she knew that we didn't get much shopping done but we sure had fun! [And I was the one who grew up in Jackson and lived there most of my life.] Libby would be proud of us because we only bought candy!!  I did manage to pick up one Christmas gift and a couple of stocking stuffers.  I really would have loved to go back today but the Friday night session of the EWomen Conference was so good and we knew that today would be even better.  We were right!! 

We met up with Carolyn, Sharon and Dana [back row] and a few more from our wonderful community.  It's great to sing and laugh and cry with friends.

  Pat was sweet enough to take my picture with Chonda Pierce.  This woman can make you laugh and cry at the same time.  Thanks, Pat.

The Children of Hope are always a delight. They are children from Africa.  You have a chance to sponsor children whose parents have given them up or cannot raise them usually due to HIV. Their dancing and singing always bring a smile to your face.

 I especially liked Avalon this year. Their music wasn't as loud and was more to my liking.  They did new versions of old, contemporary hymns. I loved the version of "I'll Fly Away".

Karen Kingsbury did a wonderful job. I don't think I have read any of her books but she has a book out that I definitely plan to buy. [They ran out before I could get one today.] I think Barbie will change from Dr. Suess to this one for the Seniors on Graduation Sunday!

 

Angela Thomas is just about my favorite.  This girl gets right to your heart with laughs and tears.  She said we're all "little Jesus girls"!  I love that.

 

I got to walk down the hall with Thelma Wells. We were coming from the "product room" to the sanctuary and I happen to see her.  I spoke to her and we started talking.  When we started down the steps, she took my hand.  A couple of years ago she had cancer and was very sick.  She's doing fine now.  Her story is incredible.  And-we learned today that she has a beautiful singing voice.

 

 

 

 

 

 

I did not know Mark Schultz. His plane was late so he was the last on the program. He did about 20 minutes worth of music and flew out again.  His music is very good. Pat and I decided that he should find Anna Grace in Nashville and they should work together.  Stranger things have happened!  The next E Women's Conference in Jackson will be in 2010--but we know the way to Baton Rouge or Birmingham for 2009!  Don't we Libby?

A ROSE IS A ROSE IS A ROSE?

Oh, no it's not! This rose is special!   I have always wanted to grow roses and everyone has always said they were too hard--required too much time and effort--spraying, fertilizing, etc.  I do have "Knock Out" roses which grow themselves and I love them.  While playing bridge at a friend's house one night I noticed a beautiful climbing rose blooming profusely outside her house.  I picked some and took in for her to put in a vase. I told her it was too beautiful to be outside.  When we left she said "take some". I did and when I got home I stuck it in a pot that was sitting by the door.  Linda and I have watered it and watched it all summer.  It lived!! And now it's blooming!  I actually rooted a rose! I named it "Quent's Rose" because she said her husband had planted it there years ago.  I have visions of mine being planted and "growing up" to look as beautiful as theirs. I'm not going to thank you Jean, but you get the message.

MUMC ANNUAL BAZAAR

After months of work the MUMC Annual Bazaar is history.  The announcement in church this morning deemed the bazaar a big success.  Over $4000.00 was raised for the Building Fund.  Lots of people participated; lots of people shopped and LOTS of sausage and biscuits and hamburgers were sold.  Below are a few random shots. We were all very excited to see our old friend Anna. She brought her homemade cinnamon rolls. She made our day very special and made the bazaar perfect with her visit.  Thanks, Anna!
