For us at Cotton Branch the meaning of summer has just arrived---CORN!! We've spent the last two days "doing" corn. That means 500 ears a day--shucking, silking, cutting, cooking, cooling and bagging--corn!!
I call out all the troops for this event. We even get Willie Mae back out here. Papaw Robert and Exal shuck, Linda brushes and silks, Willie Mae and I cut. Janice fixes lunch. In between times I put bowls in the microwave and in the ice chest to cool.
After it's cool I bag it in quart zip loc freezer bags. Our grandchildren love corn. I'm thankful that we have it and I'm even more thankful that my Mom taught me how to do it. Corn from a can just doesn't do it for us!! I have even scrapped pages in my book about another "corn day" years ago when Ryan was younger. We did a pickup load that day!! Just look at these beautiful bags of gold--doesn't it look wonderful? This winter we'll be in heaven! Thanks Mr. Kelley for growing it and thanks guys for helping me put it up.
And now I'm going to get a bath--I'm sticky, and I can't stand it when I'm sticky!!
