Last Friday morning was one of the nicest mornings I have ever spent. I was invited to a coffee at the home of Aunt Pauline Herring to wish her well before her foot surgery--or so I thought. All of my garden club members were there plus some other garden club friends. That should have been a clue, but since I'm blonde and totally naive I was just enjoying myself and my friends. Then Melody (Maxey, Pauline's daughter) steps up and says that the party was sort of a ruse to get us all together because she had a surprise. My friend Susan Gibbes tells us all that the Pine Burr Garden Club has voted to name awards after Dorothy McGehee, Pauline and me. I don't know about the others but I was totally blown away! They presented us with beautifully framed flower show award ribbons and said the nicest things. I floated on air for the rest of the day. Pauline's award--the Pauline Herring Horticulture Award will be given to the person who wins the most blue ribbons in horticulture; Dorothy's award--the Dorothy McGehee Award is for the design that best depicts the theme of the flower show; my award--the Barbara Herring Design Award is for the best design in the whole flower show. How awesome is that?!! I've never been so surprised or pleased. Thank you Pine Burr--I FEEL SPECIAL!!
