MORE THAN I EXPECTED
I received a call yesterday from my cousin that his father had slipped peacefully away to heaven in his sleep about 6:00 AM. When I thought about it I realized that I had waked up before daylight and could not go back to sleep. I got up at 6:30 AM and put on my walking shoes. I got both dogs and off we went for a walk. I found myself praying out loud and I had included my three uncles (the one who had died) and my aunt. It's getting close to our family reunion and I asked God for health enough for them to make it to our home and strength enough for them to enjoy it. They all have had health problems in the last year or so. Tom and I made plans to come to Tishomingo for the services and we left early this morning. I realized after an hour or so on the road that I should order some flowers. My cousin had mentioned a shop in Burnsville and I called it. I told the girl that I wanted something "wonderful, awesome and very different from the usual funeral stand--something my uncle would like." Being an ex-flower shop owner and a master flower show judge, I told her that I would be there to see it (that scares them!). Our trip was long but we enjoyed it. Sometimes we talked and sometimes we didn't. When we walked into the funeral home, this is what we saw when looking at the flowers. I think you'll be as pleased as we all were.
It stood about four feet tall and looked like a tree in a flower garden. The pot held a bird's nest fern and there was also a bird house with a blue bird perched on it. The flowers were tulips, gerbers, carnations, iris, daisies and roses with grasses and ferns. It was a knock-out!! If you ever need flowers close to Burnsville, MS call the Burnsville Florist!! She can do the job.
Please pray for Hal Jr. and his family. They will miss Uncle Hal.
There were six--now there are two.
I love you a bushel & a peck. Hug everyone for me. I wish I was there with you!

The floral tribute is wonderful, awesome, and I'm sure it honored the family. Is this uncle the father-in-law of Linda Jean? Praying for traveling grace for you and Tom, and for your family. In my mama's family, (the Herring side) there were eight and now there is one. She said there were advantages to being the baby, but that she also had to mourn the others.

The flower arrangement is absolutely beautiful. I know that you like "different" and it is that!
I'm sorry about your uncle. I guess the saddest thing about getting to be our age is that we have to deal with the passing of our elders more often. This is the way that God planned it and He gave us the strength to handle it...thank the Lord.

I am sorry for your loss. Don't you know your mom is glad to see him? What a reunion going on up there.....

Barbara
Was shocked and so sorry to hear of your illness. So glad to know you are getting better.
Will add you to our prayer list here. I know it must be scary to face all this again, but I know you will prevail. You are still my hero (heroine?).

Sharyn

I am so sorry to hear about your Uncle Hal. The flowers are beautiful. I don't know if I ever told you but your Uncle Hal gave me some pictures of my Daddy right after Daddy died. One of the pictures he gave me is in my living room. He was a very nice man and my Tishomingo family thought a lot of him.

I'm so sorry about the loss in your family!
Burnsville Florist did great - I think you did the right thing to tell them that you were expecting something wonderful and that you would be there to see it. I always wonder when I send flowers somewhere that I'm not going to get to see, by a florist I don't know personally, how they really turn out (because no one's going to tell you that the flowers were less than spectacular).
The arrangement really is different and special. Very nice!
